Fundamentals of Estimating - 8 CEU's and CCE Certification

At the end of this 80 hour course students receive the CCE (Certified Construction Estimtor) certification, valid for 3 years. This class will cover:

  • Corporation Development: How to be Incorporated, Types of incorporation, How to go about being certified by Federal and State agencies, how to be placed on bid lists, how to fill the forms for SBE recognition and certification and how to go about requesting financial assistance.
  • Blueprint Reading: Understanding how to read drawings. How to correlate drawings to actual concepts, how to use scales, trade drawings, contract drawings and shop drawings.
  • General and Special Conditions Legal Review: Understanding responsibilities and liabilities of the contractor, sub-contractors, suppliers, owner, architect, engineers, and consultants.
  • Division 1, General and Special Conditions: Key topics range from bid assembly and project specific labor, temporary services and types of overheads and how to calculate them.
  • Division 2, Site Work: Emphasis on how to estimate earthwork, sheeting & shoring, utilities, dewatering as well as means and methods, including productivity and costs calculations.
  • Division 3, Concrete: Emphasis on how to estimate concrete. Types of concrete used quantity take offs of material, placement, formwork and reinforcing steel. Means and methods, productivity and costs will be discussed.
  • Division 4, Masonry: Emphasis on estimating brick, concrete masonry units, stone work, mortar, and rebar including accessories. This will include means and methods productivity and costs in our discussion.
  • Division 5, Metals: Structural steel and miscellaneous metals. Take-off, pricing and productivity for fabrication and erection are emphasized.
  • Division 6, Wood & Plastics: How to estimate wood framing and residential construction are featured. Included are finish and architectural carpentry and plastics. Means, methods, productivity and cost are discussed.
  • Division 7, Thermal & Moisture Protection: How to estimate waterproofing, roofing, (all types) insulation and all accessories. Means, methods, productivity and costs are discussed.
  • Division 8, Doors & Windows: Estimating types of doors and windows, glazing and hardware are examined and evaluated as are work elements and costs including fabrication, and productivity.
  • Division 9, Finishes: Estimating emphasis on drywall, plaster, acoustical ceiling, floors and painting are covered. Means, methods, productivity and costs are discussed.
